Instagram is the most popular social media platform among Youth. Having a userbase of more than 2 billion users worldwide, Instagram is ruling the social media industry.

What is IGTV?

IGTV(Instagram TV) is a video feature of Instagram which lets you upload a video of up to 1 hour. Previously you can upload a video of 60 seconds only.

It was released 2 years bask to give a competition to YouTube. There is no copyright issue on Instagram so you can post content of anyone without any disclaimer.

Since the release of IGTV, the Instagram Team is experimenting with various features to attract creators.

But somehow creators are more interested in Youtube since they get paid for their content as a YouTube monetization policy.

What is IGTV Monetization?

IGTV Monetization first came into news after a recent tweet posted by reverse engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong.

As mentioned in the description:

“You can earn money by running short ads on your IGTV videos. When you monetize on IGTV, you agree to follow the Partner Program Monetization Policies.”

Then ADAM MOSSERI who is the CEO of Instagram tweeted on 7th Feb 2020

“It’s no secret that we’ve been exploring this. We focused first on making sure the product had legs — else there would be little to monetize in the first place. IGTV is still in its early days, but it’s growing and so we’re exploring more ways to make it sustainable for creators.”

Then a few weeks later Instagram confirmed that

“Starting next week, we are introducing ads in IGTV, our long-form video destination. IGTV ads will initially appear when people click to watch IGTV videos from previews in their feed. The video ads will be built for mobile and up to 15 seconds long. We’ll test various experiences within IGTV ads throughout the year – such as the ability to skip an ad – to make sure the final result works well for people, creators, and advertisers.”

On May 27th Instagram finally broke the news of IGTV Monetization. It states that the new update will allow some creators to apply monetization on their IGTV videos.

These updates include new ads on IGTV videos, badges that viewers can purchase during a live video, and expansion of Brand Collabs Manager.

But this is limited to a few creators only. It is rolled out for 200 creators only. The other creators will have to wait for IGTV Monetization. Since there is no news of when it is applicable for other users also so the only option left for creators is to wait till news comes out.

As per new IGTV monetization, policy creators will receive a 55% share of all ads in IGTV content.

There are a few policy & guidelines which the creators have to follow in order to enable Monetization on their IGTV.

These guidelines include that the content should be originally created by the creator & should not violate any Instagram Content Policy.

Those who are using copied content are not eligible for monetization at any cost.
